Ratio Analysis Report.
We were assigned to choose a partner for this project and after that, we were told to choose a company. After choosing the company, we were asked to gather some background information about the company (example: the history of the company) and then was asked to download the chosen company's annual report. Me and mazen (my groupmate) decided to choose Pepsico as the company and we got their annual report from the internet. After that we were asked to look at their balance sheet and the P&L statement to calculate the ratio and make the interpretations.
My favorite topic of the subject .
My favorite topic of this subject would be ratio and interpretations. Actually, there are many reasons behind this. First of all, the way i see it, it was a very interesting topic. Most importantly, it was a topic that i understood very fast. For this i would like to thank my lecturer (Mr Joe) for providing us with an exercise that made us understand the topic more easily. Apart from this, I liked studying this topic because it made me realize why people invent their own money in businesses and how they become rich from it. The way i see it, i think this is very useful in life also because this topic taught me some of the factors to look at before investing in a company.
My least favorite topic of the subject .
My least favorite topic from this subject would be the accounting principles. Main reason behind this would be because i get mixed up with the different principles. Apart from this i also found out that i usually forget the name of the principles as they can be a bit difficult to remember. Since this is a very important topic, I think it would be good to come up with a way that students studying economics would remember all these principles without getting them mixed up.
The most applicable topic of the subject.
I personally believe that Ratio and interpretations would be the most applicable topic that i learned. Mainly because as mentioned before, by learning this topic you can calculate ratio's and make interpretations about real businesses/ companies. Not only this but this topic also teaches you some of the factors to look at when your investing in a company. Furthermore, if you do the calculations right, you'd estimate the time you can get when you invested back. The way i see it, all this is really interesting and the project that i did based on this topic just proves that this is the most applicable topic that i learned.
Reflective essay about the subject
By studying this subject, the first thing i learned would be some of the basics concepts and a bit of an introduction to what accounting is. After giving us an introduction of the subject, then i learned about the different types of businesses that exists and how they operate. The way i see it, one of the most important thing that we learned was balance sheet and double entry recording. I learned how to enter the transactions into a balance sheet and also learned about the different things present in a balance sheet. Furthermore, i also learned more about what profit&loss statement is and how it is used by the businesses. After studying about the ledger recordings, i was then introduced to the types of accounting reports that are produced from the ledger recordings. I learned about the different types of accounting reports and the information needed from the ledger recording for the accounting report. Apart from this, the most important thing i learned would be knowing how to evaluate the performance of the business by learning ratio and interpretations. I also learned how to make investments on businesses and the factors to look at when making one. Considering all this i firmly believe that i have achieved the main objective of this subject. That is, to make good business decisions after applying the right accounting tools.
