Building Materials
Brief introduction about building materials

Project 1a (space out-the material cube)
The task of this project was to design and build two
separate paper and wood cube to define a volume of
12”x12”x12” inch space
What I learned and achieved:
-
I learned how to recognize
-
I learned intrinsic forms, limitations and boun
daries of a material factor in a design
process.
-
I also experiece how to effectively work with a material in line with design requirements
-
Also. i was able to express a material within its contextual
application

Project 2A (Group)
For this project we divided into groups and were asked to choose a site with ample of building mateirals. We also asked to observe the use of materials in different spaces and how the materials provide the spatial quality, and the brief details about the type of building mateirals used

Project 2B (Individual)
For this project all students were asked to choose a specific shophouse. We were then asked to observe the spaces in the shophouse, how the choosing of materials relate to the spaces and the relationship of mateirials and spaces with the light as well.
What i learned and achieved from project 2A and 2B:
• I learned how to produce a complete documentation and analysis of ma
terials in respect to physical and chemical propert
ies.
• I was able to Identify of various types of building materia
l (Finishes and Structural).
• I Understood the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building.
• I Understood the appropriateness of material used in context several factors occupancy, concept, climate
.
• I was able to acquire analytical skill in understanding selection
of building materials for a building/design.
•I Understood of application/ installation of material as finish and structural material (simple construction).
