Project 1 - Case Study
Students are to read Jahn Gehls Life between Buildings (Chapter 1). Then students are to examine patterns of social activities in a city and identify contact points. They are to be classified by varying degree of contact intensity.
SUBMISSION REQUIRMENTS
- A3 Sized illustrated diagrams of the city identifying contact points and intensity accompanied by with an introduction of city and images
Project 2 - Comperative Analysis Essay
Students are to examine similarities and dissimilarities based on patterns of social activity and types of contact points. And the varying degree of contact intensity between the two cities. Students are expected to research for information from publications, internet and other sources
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- 2000 words comparative analysis essay
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Analyze architecture and architecture forms in relation to architectural theories
- Analyze and critique relationship between architecture, its social, cultural and intellectual context
- Produce orally and in writing, an interpretation of architecture and urbanism in relation to revelant theories
Sypnosis Reaction Paper
Each student is to prepare and submit reaction papers as sypnosis of the given reading documents The reaction paper should be formulated based on the questions below
1- What issues does the author address
2- What is the authors main point
3- How does the author back up the point
4- What are strenghts and weaknesses of authors assumptions
5- How do these ideas connect to the overal idea
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A4 Size (300 words) according to the given template
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Describe theoretical issues related to design trhough study of architecture and urbanism
- Relate architectural theories to contemporary achitecture and urban forms
